Having to deal with the cramps, mood swings, and other unpleasant side effects of your period can feel like more than enough to handle. Add to that equation leaking pads and your time of the month can be very overwhelming. However, there are many tricks you can use to make sure that you have a leak-free and worry-free period but why do we have to do tricks in order to feel confident and secure on our periods?
An Always study found that 80% of girls and women experience period leaks every month – that’s 4 out of 5 women – every month.
Women have been having periods from the beginning of time and while we’ve come such a long way with feminine products, pads are not “one size fits all” and 60% of women are wearing the wrong size pad. Yes you read that correctly, 60%!
Thankfully Always launched Always My Fit, a sizing system designed to help women find the right size pad based on their panty size and flow for better coverage to avoid leaks. It’s about damn time! I’ve had my period for 21 years and my flow constantly changes. Some months I’m very heavy and other months I’m light. After having children my period has been very interesting and with each passing month I never know what to expect. Always pads are now numerically sized 1 through 5 and I can select the best coverage for both day and night protection and leaking is a thing of the past. Thank God!
Here are 8 things you no longer need to do when you’re on your period
Now that Always My Fit has us covered and protected during our periods we no longer need to double our pads or use panty liners for additional coverage. Some people like to place pantyliners sideways above and below their pads because this can give you some extra coverage in places where you tend to leak, but now the you can wear pads that are the right size you save yourself some coin and not worry about staining your underclothes. Click here to take the Always My Fit sizing quiz and find your best size.
As if the extra precautions aren’t enough when you’re afraid of leaks its much safer to wear dark loose clothing to camouflage any stains and/or bring extra clothing to do a quick change if you happen to leak suddenly. I get why this is necessary, you worry less about leaking if you’re wearing clothes that are less likely to display your leaks. But darker clothes can be drab especially in the spring and summer months. When you’re wearing a pad that is the right size you can put the black back and bring on the bright colors. Don’t forget to throw your Always My Fit pads in your purse before you head out.
I’m so comfortable with my period that I even talk with my husband about it. Not like he cares, but I’m not ashamed of my period and I don’t try to hide it in fear that he will get grossed out. As long as I’m properly wrapping up my pads in the garbage we are all good. But I do digress. My point is, don’t let your period prevent you from living your life.
When I’m on my period I no longer need to stress out about how I’m going to get through the day or night without a leak at all. It’s important that you don’t allow your period leaks to hamper you from living your life. I still go to the gym during my periods because staying active and fit is important. The pool and the beach are no longer off limits. If your period has been holding you back take a page from my book and start embracing your period. Be proud of your period. Your period should not be something you’re embarrassed about.
