8 Things You No Longer Need To Do When You’re On Your Period

June 30, 2017

Thank you Always for sponsoring this post!

Having to deal with the cramps, mood swings, and other unpleasant side effects of your period can feel like more than enough to handle. Add to that equation leaking pads and your time of the month can be very overwhelming. However, there are many tricks you can use to make sure that you have a leak-free and worry-free period but why do we have to do tricks in order to feel confident and secure on our periods?

An Always study found that 80% of girls and women experience period leaks every month – that’s 4 out of 5 women – every month.

Women have been having periods from the beginning of time and while we’ve come such a long way with feminine products, pads are not “one size fits all” and 60% of women are wearing the wrong size pad.  Yes you read that correctly, 60%!

Thankfully Always launched Always My Fit, a sizing system designed to help women find the right size pad based on their panty size and flow for better coverage to avoid leaks. It’s about damn time! I’ve had my period for 21 years and my flow constantly changes. Some months I’m very heavy and other months I’m light. After having children my period has been very interesting and with each passing month I never know what to expect. Always pads are now numerically sized 1 through 5 and I can select the best coverage for both day and night protection and leaking is a thing of the past. Thank God!

Here are 8 things you no longer need to do when you’re on your period

Now that Always My Fit has us covered and protected during our periods we no longer need to double our pads or use panty liners for additional coverage. Some people like to place pantyliners sideways above and below their pads because this can give you some extra coverage in places where you tend to leak, but now the you can wear pads that are the right size you save yourself some coin and not worry about staining your underclothes. Click here to take the Always My Fit sizing quiz and find your best size.

As if the extra precautions aren’t enough when you’re afraid of leaks its much safer to wear dark loose clothing to camouflage any stains and/or bring extra clothing to do a quick change if you happen to leak suddenly. I get why this is necessary, you worry less about leaking if you’re wearing clothes that are less likely to display your leaks. But darker clothes can be drab especially in the spring and summer months. When you’re wearing a pad that is the right size you can put the black back and bring on the bright colors. Don’t forget to throw your Always My Fit pads in your purse before you head out.

I’m so comfortable with my period that I even talk with my husband about it. Not like he cares, but I’m not ashamed of my period and I don’t try to hide it in fear that he will get grossed out. As long as I’m properly wrapping up my pads in the garbage we are all good. But I do digress. My point is, don’t let your period prevent you from living your life.

When I’m on my period I no longer need to stress out about how I’m going to get through the day or night without a leak at all. It’s important that you don’t allow your period leaks to hamper you from living your life. I still go to the gym during my periods because staying active and fit is important. The pool and the beach are no longer off limits. If your period has been holding you back take a page from my book and start embracing your period. Be proud of your period. Your period should not be something you’re embarrassed about.

I heard about these the other day and I LOVE the idea. It’s important to know that one size pad doesn’t fit everyone (I know personally) so having size options is just a great thing. I’m so thankful to Always for getting on board with this. And I love your tips! Thank you!

I am so thankful that none of this is a concern for me anymore! I had an early hysterectomy so periods are a thing of the past. I have had to buy products for my daughters and the array of things available anymore is almost overwhelming!

After having babies I could not wear tampons anymore. So I had to switch to pads. Always are my go to. They are great fro my heavy days too. I always feel confident when I am wearing them.

I never wear white when I’m on my period. Black back is usual, to be safe and get more confident that any leak won’t be shown too obviously. It’s nice that you found a way not to have any leak at all.

Ever since the age of 10 my period has been the BANE of my existence. I have resorted to using pads and tampons at the same time and yet STILL, I have leakage issues. I am very curious to see if I can somehow keep myself from leaking with the right size pad on but I will say, I’m skeptical. Here goes!!

I’m so glad this isn’t a taboo subject. It’s really nice to have lots of options when it comes to pads, and can live our lives just like we would the other days of the month. I entered the giveaway and hope I win. Always is a brand I’ve used for years. x

Thanks Always!! This is such a great improvement on ‘your mom’s pads’. I remember wearing pads that either felt like a huge diaper or super uncomfortable. So happy this is an option for me and my daughter’s when the time comes.

Your period shouldn’t cause stress or hinder your everyday life! But it happens and just the possibility of it happening can cause anxiety. If these Always pad can lessen that anxiety, kudos!

I’ve always been a fan of Always products. I’ve never had an issue with them and now my daughter uses them. This would be a great prize to win!

I love that you talk to your husband about it, i do all the time!! Not yours because now that would be weird but my bf knows all the gory details of my periods!😁

I took the quiz and I’m excited about seeing how the recommendations work for me. Oven always dreaded my period so it will hopefully work out well.

I love this concept with Always pads! It is a great idea to have size options for our menstual needs because we as women are all not the same size! Those with a heavier flow need a larger more absorbent pad especially during the overnight hours and then when your flow is not so heavy, you can use a lighter pad!

I love not having to worry about leaks. I’ve been switching brands lately and having no luck.

I have always loved Always! LOL They are a great brand and I can always depend on them to prevent leaks!

  • Reply Dawn Bradley July 5, 2017 at 11:29 am

I did not know about the size options with Always. It is the only brand I buy but I always get the same ones. I am going to have to try some of the other sizes to see if they are a better fit for me.

I’ve been using Always since I was 13 and now I’m 32. I can honestly say that I don’t know it any other way and I wouldnt even dare.
I remember being in Cancun on vacation and it came unexpectedly while I was on a tour bus. I got off at the next shopping stop to get pads. And there it was…in Spanish of course. But it felt safe…it felt familiar. I knew I was going to have a good day 🙂

I have been following you since you first got pregnant with Elle. I’m sure you don’t remember but you helped me when I struggles with getting pregnant around that same time. I was so depressed and frustrated. At that time my period was sporadic because I had just gotten my Mirena removed. I was defiantly doubling up on protection because my body was trying to balance itself out. I don’t wear pads anymore but it’s nice to know that Always has stepped it up! I wish these were around when I was a teenager😊

The under eye cream would definitely help when on my period. I always end up with dark circles and uneven skin!

  • Reply MICHELLE L DANIELS November 12, 2017 at 10:22 am

Always is the only brand I used when I had my period. They were the only brand that could handle my heavy flow.

  • Reply Yesenia Aguilar November 12, 2017 at 10:51 am

I could use that under eye cream for my roughed nights i struggle with dark eye circles and I would love to treat my eye’s.

  • Reply Tanya Woods November 12, 2017 at 11:07 am

Like you my cycle has been unpredictable since having a child. Some months I need a tampon and pad combo to avoid leaks. I will be looking into these pads. Hopefully I can find a perfect fit.

  • Reply Elisha Martin November 12, 2017 at 12:49 pm

Great advice. I love how you informed us of your relationship with your husband about your cycle.

  • Reply Toya November 12, 2017 at 1:23 pm

60% is a high percentage. Always is my go-to brand – they have yet to let me down. I am thankful that I only experience light periods though.

  • Reply Lorine L. November 12, 2017 at 5:42 pm

That monthly visit that I dread. I remember doubling up on pads and sometimes still do just to be on the safe side. Always is one of my go to brands, and I’m happy that they came out with this new product. I will definitely be giving these a try. (

  • Reply Ashley Prince November 12, 2017 at 5:45 pm

Always yhe purple version has always been my savuor. Nothing else works. I remeber when they brought out the orange ones for the “plus sized” woman as they said and ut was like a life savor. As you said no more doubling up on pads. I lost my mind and tried out the equate version once and even topped if off with some white dress pants. Girl safe to say i went and got my $ back really quick. Just a shame!!
