Yesterday in soccer practice my munchkin Joel scored his first goal! He was so excited about scoring the goal today as he should. I’ve noticed the skill level of this group of players is above par. Unlike last year when he literally scored about 90% of the goals, this year…not so much. He’s really gotta work harder at it and today he worked hard. During yesterday’s scrimmage Joel was on the red team and the black team kicked the ball towards his goal. He hightailed it down the field to get the ball. He got in front of the ball and when he moved to get behind the ball he slipped and fell. At the same time that Joel was getting off the ground a member of the black team kicked the ball but missed and instead by accident kicked Joel in the eye!
I’m a soccer mom y’all, so I ran on the field to grab my baby and he was screaming and balling and screaming and balling. We went to get an ice pack and I asked Joel “Do you wanna go get one more goal before we leave?” (I did say I’m a soccer mom right?)
And he said YES! He ran back in the game and told his coach through tears, sobs and snot, “I wanna score one more goal” and he played one more round. No goal. But he played.
That’s my lil champion! His teammate who kicked him by accident was emotionally distraught and was crying his little heart out because he was so upset about kicking Joel.
