“You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight.”
At the beginning of this year I set out to build up my lifestyle brand in a way that extended outside of YouTube videos. This was me “changing my direction”. I launched a podcast weeks before the new year because I couldn’t wait until the ball dropped- when I get the fire to do something I just do it. But it was inspired by my desire to do something different in 2017.
In January I launched my Healthy Living Podcast workbook which was a major undertaking. My business partner and I spent hours researching and learning how to create a workbook. I hired a graphic designer who wasn’t giving me the proper attention and things got delayed. When I finally got my workbook design I had to teach myself how to use photoshop 😳. It was like learning a new language. I was slow but I was motivated. It would take me hours to properly insert text into one section of one page and it would take almost a full day to complete one page. In the end my determination helped me create a 22 page workbook that has been my top seller on this website. If you need some weight loss motivation as a guide to making healthy changes I recommend you get this workbook now.
After making the workbook I challenged myself to design branded merchandise with my favorite mantra “Inhale Confidence Exhale Doubt” on it. Once again I didn’t have the skills to do this so I taught myself everything I needed to get started. I learned so much about product design, wholesale, managing inventory and order fulfillment. I launched a goals journal, 2 mugs, and a pen. My first mug design sold out in months and after my busy summer I took the feedback from customers and designed a 2nd mug. My journal and mug are on sale now.
In the Spring, I launched the EllePStewart Boutique, a toddler boutique curated by my ladybug EllePStewart. I had no idea how to run a fashion boutique but I did what I always do. I taught myself. We launched with just a few items and the support has been really good. I’m teaching Elle how to run a business and she takes fulfilling orders seriously. She wants to do every step of it without my help!
In the Fall, I decided I wanted to open up my own production studio where I could produce all my photo/video content with hopes of providing jobs to others in the future. I’m starting small by renting time in an established studio and I’m learning a lot about having a studio space in preparation for my own space in the future. I don’t know if I’ll have my own space in 2018 or not but I’m moving in the direction of this “destination”.
