A: At this point, when I run anything up to 6 miles I don’t take any breaks. I do however take one 2 minute walk break when I run 8 miles – 13 miles (like today). My break is usually at the halfway point, so today I took my break at 4 miles, and during that time I walked, refueled with an energy gel (shown in pic) , and take a few sips of water. Of course when I first started running two years ago I couldn’t run this long without a break. With the support of the C25k app by Zenlabs I started out running for 60 seconds and then a 60 second walk break. Over 8 weeks with that app I began running for 3 minutes at a time, then 5, then 10 and eventually a full 30 minutes with no breaks. Now I can run 13 miles with one very short break. This doesn’t happen over night. It’s been 2 years. Watch my video on How I Started Running for more info.
