It’s Time To Shake Up My Morning Workout Routine

Did you know the best way to wake up is to rise with the sun? I keep my bedroom shades and curtains open at night so that my body wakes up naturally with the sun and this starts me off in a very positive mood. I roll out of bed and I put on my workout clothes that I prepared the night before and then I head into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth before I head in the basement to run on my treadmill before Elle wakes up.  Once the kids wake up my day becomes all about them so sunrise is my time to get my workouts in. I let Joel sleep until 8am, giving him enough time to get dressed and washed up or school. But Elle is an early riser and most mornings she’s up and running not too long after I rise, thus requiring us to get her room darkening curtains about a year ago and she still wakes up pretty early if you ask me. But I do digress.

Now that the weather is much warmer in the morning I think it’s time to shake up my morning routine and begin hitting the pavement again for my runs.  The treadmill has been great during the fall, winter and spring, but there’s nothing like running outdoors. Before I head out I wash my face with my holy grail black soap because it keeps my skin acne free and youthful. Then I brush my teeth with Colgate® Optic White® to keep my pearlies glowing and then I rinse with mouthwash.

Colgate just came out with a new really intriguing mouthwash, the Colgate Total® Advanced Health Mouthwash, that you have to shake up to activate. I saw it in a commercial and it looked like fun, I couldn’t wait to get my shake on.

You can see by looking at the bottle that there’s a green ingredient layer hanging out at the top.  When you shake the bottle it activates the mouthwash and it blends into a different  green color.

These two ingredients freshen your breath and kill germs.  When you’re done take a look in the sink to see the bacteria that’s removed. Oh and your entire mouth will not be on fire after you’re done.

Now it’s time to lace up and for the first time since the late spring of last year I’m heading outside! The sun is rising, there’s dew on my lawn, the birds are chirping loudly and it feels so good to breathe fresh air!

When I’m out on a run it’s my time to self reflect. I talk with myself the entire time about any and everything that comes to mind. I often self talk about my day’s plans, I go through my itinerary and time things out mentally.

I often come up with the best blog ideas while I’m on a run because I have time to just think — oh how amazing it is to just think without interruption. There are many mornings that I don’t want to run but then I’m reminded that if I don’t do it I’m not giving myself some much needed exercise and I’m depriving myself of the silence I won’t get any other time.

This run felt so good. Running in my basement has its conveniences but there’s nothing like shaking up a routine and doing something different. Shaking up your routine can be trying a new workout or trying a new hairstyle or using the Colgate Total® Advanced Health regimen to help improve your mouth health.     Living in Scandinavia, rising with the sun isn’t a good option… the sun rises around 4:30 right now and in the winter it won’t rise until around 9:00. My cat, however, rises with the sun no matter what 🙁

    I’m very fortunate to work from home as a freelancer, so I don’t really ever get into a morning rut. I get up when I feel like it and my day is shaped by whatever work I have on deck. I don’t miss a structured morning routine and a commute at all! One thing is for sure though, I always get my workout in before I sit down to work, otherwise, the day gets in the way.

    I have been focusing on walking on my treadmill while I work. I cannot be outside right now because it is way to hot in SoFL right now.

    I have no wake up schedule other than waking at 5:30am to get ready for work at 8am. I make breakfast for my son and I and we head out the door by 7:15am the latest. I’ve been needed to buy a new toothpaste and mouthwash I might just try this one.

    I have four kids, so they shake up my morning for me! I have used this Colgate rinse before, and I liked it. I wish that I could get into the routine of running in the mornings like my husband did at one time, but that is hard for me.

    I usually start by adjusting what I am eating and drinking in the mornings. Sounds weird but I get in a rut with my food and then get bored which leads to snacking. ugh. So I find if I switch up my routine that helps. Shake it up!!

    It is great that you are taking time for yourself. Also super important to take care of your teeth. My dentist told me how gum disease can create issues with diabetes and even your heart. I am all for healthy snacking and exercising more.

    I am like you… I have to get my day started before everyone else. No matter what time I go to bed, I am up and at it at the same time every day. I can get so much accomplished those first few hours of the day.

    Huge Colgate fan here. I have not seen this new mouthwash, but it has definitely caught my attention. I love that you can see the results in the sink. Adding this to my next grocery order! Thanks for telling us about it!

    I dont know what it is about the shower, driving and running that generate the best ideas. I guess because its a form of motions and mind stillness that allow the mind to get those creative blog juices flowing. I didnt know about this Colgate Health new mouthwash but I like this new shake activation concept!

    My morning routine is so important – my whole day feels off when I skip out. I work full-time and start at 6 am so I do use an alarm to get up at 5 each day and start my rituals. I love Colgate and have used it since childhood so it’s a must before I get going with my day.

    For me, mornings are always where, if it’s going to happen, I’ll feel like I’m in a rut. I have a number of things I do when it happens. Try a new recipe for breakfast, even if it’s just a different way to make my eggs. Instead of going to yoga, I’ll take another class at the fitness center. Sometimes, I’ll switch up my routine for doing my daily morning chores. Great post!

    I too, like leaving the blinds up – it tells me that it’s that time of the morning. I haven’t jogged daily for awhile but now with the birds singing and the sun shining – plus you motivation spurring me on, I need to get it back as a routine
    And, I love the Colgate products you’ve shared – having it in my cupboards –

    Look at those curves! Great article. I also have a treadmill at the house, but some days, I like to go out and enjoy nature. I’m much like you in regard to self reflecting and thinking during this time of the day. I love the early mornings.
