Did you know the best way to wake up is to rise with the sun? I keep my bedroom shades and curtains open at night so that my body wakes up naturally with the sun and this starts me off in a very positive mood. I roll out of bed and I put on my workout clothes that I prepared the night before and then I head into the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth before I head in the basement to run on my treadmill before Elle wakes up. Once the kids wake up my day becomes all about them so sunrise is my time to get my workouts in. I let Joel sleep until 8am, giving him enough time to get dressed and washed up or school. But Elle is an early riser and most mornings she’s up and running not too long after I rise, thus requiring us to get her room darkening curtains about a year ago and she still wakes up pretty early if you ask me. But I do digress.
Now that the weather is much warmer in the morning I think it’s time to shake up my morning routine and begin hitting the pavement again for my runs. The treadmill has been great during the fall, winter and spring, but there’s nothing like running outdoors. Before I head out I wash my face with my holy grail black soap because it keeps my skin acne free and youthful. Then I brush my teeth with Colgate® Optic White® to keep my pearlies glowing and then I rinse with mouthwash.
Colgate just came out with a new really intriguing mouthwash, the Colgate Total® Advanced Health Mouthwash, that you have to shake up to activate. I saw it in a commercial and it looked like fun, I couldn’t wait to get my shake on.
You can see by looking at the bottle that there’s a green ingredient layer hanging out at the top. When you shake the bottle it activates the mouthwash and it blends into a different green color.
These two ingredients freshen your breath and kill germs. When you’re done take a look in the sink to see the bacteria that’s removed. Oh and your entire mouth will not be on fire after you’re done.
Now it’s time to lace up and for the first time since the late spring of last year I’m heading outside! The sun is rising, there’s dew on my lawn, the birds are chirping loudly and it feels so good to breathe fresh air!
When I’m out on a run it’s my time to self reflect. I talk with myself the entire time about any and everything that comes to mind. I often self talk about my day’s plans, I go through my itinerary and time things out mentally.
I often come up with the best blog ideas while I’m on a run because I have time to just think — oh how amazing it is to just think without interruption. There are many mornings that I don’t want to run but then I’m reminded that if I don’t do it I’m not giving myself some much needed exercise and I’m depriving myself of the silence I won’t get any other time.
This run felt so good. Running in my basement has its conveniences but there’s nothing like shaking up a routine and doing something different.
