My 5 favorite Instagram Hacks!

March 23, 2017

I spend hours on Instagram every single day and when you spend that much time doing something you learn a few tricks that help you to navigate around the social media platform in a way that is very efficient.  There are tons of Instagram hacks but here are my 5 favorites.

Rearrange The Order Of Your Filters

Whichever filter is your favorite, make it easy to find by changing the order in which the filters appear on your edit screen. You can even hide those ones you never use. (I’m looking at you 1977.)

How to do it:

  1. When posting a photo or video, go to Filter
  2. Scroll to the end of your filters and tap Manage
  3. Press and hold the three line icon next to each filter on the left-hand side of the screen to rearrange the order of your filters
  4. Check or uncheck the circles next to each filter on the right-hand side of the screen to hide or unhide filters
  5. Click Done to save your settings

Add And Manage Multiple Accounts

I have 5 accounts Instagrams – YES 5!  Before this hack became available I had to toggle back and forth between all my accounts. As annoying as it was–I made it work.  Thankfully Instagram has allowed the option to have multiple accounts without having to login and logout to access them all.

How to do it on Instagram:

  1. Tap on the person icon at the bottom of the screen to visit your profile
  2. Tap the gear icon on iOS or the three dots on Android to go to Options
  3. Scroll to the bottom and select Add Account
  4. Enter the username and password for the second account you’d like to manage
  5. Once you’ve added a second (or third or fourth) account, the profile icon in the navigation bar will change from the silhouette of a person to your profile image
  6. To switch between accounts, simply long press your profile image in the navigation bar until a menu of your accounts appears
  7. Select your desired account, then snap, scroll, and like away

Delete Comments

Fortunately, I don’t get many negative comments on my Instagram pages, but I do get spam and on occasion there have been people arguing. There’s also been a few times where I’ve left a comment that was either incomplete or words were spelled wrong (thank you auto-correct). When this happens, I just delete the comments.

How to delete your own comment:

  1. Tap the speech bubble icon beneath the post you commented on
  2. Find the comment you’d like to delete
  3. Swipe to the left over the comment
  4. Tap the trash can icon

How to delete others’ comments on your posts:

  1. Tap the speech bubble icon beneath the post containing the comment you’d like to delete
  2. Swipe to the left over the comment
  3. A partial swipe will bring up a trio of options, allowing you to reply, flag, or delete a comment
  4. Tap the trash can icon—or continue swiping to the left—to delete the comment

Save Posts Where Only You Can See Them

Have you ever been scrolling through your feed and spotted something that you really, really wanted to save for later? Now you can.

Instagram has a little-known feature that lets you save posts to an area of your profile only you can see. It’s the perfect place to squirrel away inspiration or even save competitor posts you’d like to revisit.

Bye Bye Screenshots!

How to do it:

  1. Go to a post you’d like to save
  2. Tap the bookmark icon underneath the post on the right-hand side of the screen
  3. To see your saved posts, visit your profile and tap the matching bookmark icon (next to the Photos of You icon) to go the Saved tab

Add Line Breaks In Your Bio To Make It Stand Out

If you’d like to break up the block of text that is your bio, this hack is for you. Line breaks are a great way to include info in a visually appealing way.

For more ways to spruce up your profile, check out our post of Instagram Bio Ideas for Business.

How to do it on mobile:

  1. Open up a notes app and write out your bio as you’d like it to appear, line breaks included
  2. Select all the text and choose Copy
  3. Open the Instagram app
  4. Tap the person icon to visit your profile
  5. Tap the Edit Profile button
  6. Paste the text from your notes app into the bio field
  7. Tap Done to save your changes

I tend to keep my personal bio very short, but I make a long list for the Instagram pages that I manage for my two kids.

Which of these hacks were you already using? Which of these had you saying “OMG – You can do that???”

I too have multiple accounts and I find that IG keeps logging me out. Do you find this problem too?

No actually, I’ve never been logged out. Check to make sure your IG app is updated. If it is, try restarting your phone.

Thank you for the information, it was really informative! Sometimes you don’t realize those options are there like having multiple accounts, privately saving others’ posts for future reference, archiving instead of deleting your own posts, etc. until you stumble across it or someone tells you. The last tip about the bio was very helpful to me. I’ll be writing my bio outside of IG and then copy & paste it into IG. Great post! Happy Thanksgiving.
