My Secrets To Having The Best Morning Everyday

April 21, 2017

I’ve been a morning person my whole life and my kids take after me. Well sometimes… they are early risers but if I wake them up before they do they tend to be a bit cranky, but I do digress.

If you struggle with waking up in the morning and often have a bad attitude until you’ve you’d had your coffee I’m here to offer you some support.  But before I get into it please know that it takes time to change habits.  Even after I’ve given you my tips you won’t become a morning person overnight, pun intended. You will have to work on it every morning.

Let The Sun In

If you currently have heavy, dark or light blocking curtains in your bedroom, I highly suggest you replace them with something that let’s the light shine brightly through your room.  Or instead of closing them before you snuggle up in the bed, I want you to open the blinds.

Before you look at me all crazy remember that you came to this article because you want to know my tips on having the best morning person, okie?

If you wake up to a dark room your body can’t wake up quickly and you will find yourself hitting the snooze button over and over. But if the room is lit up with sunshine it will in some cases wake you up before your alarm especially if your alarm goes off after sunrise. The sun will drench your room and kiss your face as a wake-up call. Consider it natures alarm clock.  It’s very very difficult for me to sleep when the sun is beaming through my room.

Rise Gently

You know those loud obnoxious get the fu*k up right now alarms?  Yea, ditch that. It disrupts my spirit when I’m startled out of my sleep.  Instead I set my iPhone to a soft sounding alarm tune. My favorite tunes are slow rise and twinkle.

Set Your Phone to Do Not Disturb

If you have an iPhone the Do Not Disturb or DND feature should be used daily.  I set my DND to turn on every night at 11pm and it stays on until 7am.  To turn yours on go to settings> Do Not Disturb> Scheduled – and then set it to your desired times. I wake up some time between 6am and 6:30am on my own, but I have an alarm set for 6:30am just in case I don’t wake up on my own.  My DND keeps all my notifications dormant until I’m done my morning routine and it helps keep me stress free.

If you rise with the sun, your day will naturally be longer (assuming you used to wake up a little later). Take this time for YOU and GOD. I like to read the daily meditation book “I Declare: 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life” by Joel Osteen. Initially I planned to read it for 31 days and then find another book but after the 31 days I started back at Day 1 and Ive been repeating this because this works for me.  If you prefer to read the bible do that. There are lot’s of bible apps, my favorite one is called Holy Bible by YouVersion.  My friend Rachel shared with me an app called First 5 which is an app designed to connect your heart to God’s Word for the First 5 minutes of your day. I’ve not used this yet, but as I type this, I realize I need to and I think I’ll just start using it tomorrow.

Start your day with confidence, get this mug.

Get out ahead of flushing your system by drinking water. If you’ve watched any of my What I Eat In A Day videos, you’ve noticed I always down 32 oz of water in the morning. After I drink it I can feel the water hydrating my entire body!  You can also drink warm water with lemon, mint tea or simply a glass of water. It’s energizing and mood-enhancing, helps balance pH levels, hydrates the lymphatic system AND cleanses and detoxes your body.

Are you ready to get started on making every morning the best? What are your secrets to a better morning?

I like to turn on my lamp on my night stand also so I won’t go back to sleep. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t! Lol!

I’ve just become an iPhone user in the past month or so (I so miss my Android) so thanks for the tips on the settings! In still learning to use this thing LOL. Also I’m in a group text with my cousins and it’s constantly going off!! I just started back working out on a regular so this will definitely help to get in bed with no distractions.

I love the First5 app. It has truly been blessing my life. Do you have any tips to help you get going faster when you get up before the sun. Once I get going I’m good, but sometimes I just want to snuggle in my bed a little longer. However, when you have to get kids ready and go to work at a certain time, you can’t do that. Thanks in advance!

This was so necessary. I’m in a transitional stage of my life and need to center myself. My goals, motivation and roadmap have been switched up major and finding my way again starts with taking time for me. Thank you for the reminder of how important self-love is.

Great article. I love the DND tip. I’m starting that tonight. I’m usually a morning person but have been going to sleep late making it harder to get up with the first alarm. I started counting down from 5, as read in a book by Mel Robbins, and that’s helping.

I use to be a night owl until I started a family & life forced me to be a morning person! I definitely agree that your alarm can play a huge part in being woken up abruptly by scarring the hell out of you. I love natural light so opening the curtains in my entire house is a must for me in the morning. I would like to set aside that prayer time. I am a BIG coffee drinker but I do have water before having any because I drink 65 ounces daily. Love this post

I have a glass of water in bed before getting up to start my day…it really wakes me up and keeps my digestion balanced.

I am not a morning person, from birth. I get up during the day because I must. I have grown accustomed to it, and I don’t allow it to bother me.

I have lived a mostly caffeine-free life and don’t need any sort of stimulant to wake me. I work to ensure that I get 5-8 hours of sleep each night, and this works for me. There are times when I do need to take some zzzquil or the like so that my brain shuts off enough for me to sleep. Because I get a burst of energy when the sun goes down, I do have to go against my nature and not get up and do things when I ought to be sleeping.

Naps are also a part of my daily life, which is a big help to me.

These are really great ideas. I never really thought about many of them. I use the DND currently but I din’t know I can schedule them. I want to try a devotional in paper form. I can’t look at my phone first thing for the bible because I can easily start looking at other things. I also like the idea of repeating it. I imagine I can receive it differently each time. I’m going to add the devotional and water intake to my morning. woot!

Another great article. Like you, I am morning person and love waking up to sun coming in my room even when the sun is not shining it’s wonderful to have my blinds open. Since 17, I’ve been thanking god every morning and begun Buddha quote because it’s helps with the simplicity of life. And, the quotes are extremely helpful.

Well Thank you Jenell I learned something useful from you today. Setting my phone to DND is a perfect option for me especially at night when I need my rest and I have my notifications on for every app from facebook to youtube. The rise gentle option is great because I have a very loud alarm. Thank You (

Great tips. I love this piece. I literally have 4 alarms to wake me up. My biggest struggle is making sure I get up early enough to have some devotion time. When that doesn’t happen my day is completely off. As always thanks for sharing.

    Pun intended haha
I think these are all great ideas…I am especially drawn to the 32oz of water. I do a measly 8oz to start and I know I have to do better.
