My Super Mommy Night Time Routine For The Best Night’s Sleep Of Your Life

May 19, 2017

Bedtime. *Exhales Deeply* The word alone is like music to my ears. Bedtime is the first and only real moment in my day where I can focus absolutely on me.  From the moment I open my eyes until I close them every decision I make is for my family. But bedtime… is for ME!

Treating your body right requires getting enough down time to recover and recuperate, your brain needs to process the day and in my case my brain needs to be ready to tackle motherhood over and over and over and over again each day, so I need to get the best sleep of my life.

Gotta take care of my hair yall

My hair is like my 3rd baby and I have to take care of her properly every night.  As a women with natural hair it’s extremely important that I do any and everything possible to maintain moisture over night.  After I add a little hair moisturizer and then put my natural hair in two strand twists for bed, I put on my Satin-Lined Cap(s) by Grace Eleyae aka Slap.  The Slap is the modern version of my night time bonnet with major upgrades and much more fashionable.

The Slap is lined with satin which creates a protective barrier between my hair and my cotton sheets I sleep on which will dry my natural hair out by the morning.  It also prevents bed-head, unnecessary breakage, and frizz.   The stretchy material fits over my hair whether I twist it or not which is a major win on those super lazy nights when my day felt way longer than 24 hours.

In the morning when it’s time to take my son to the bus stop I can confidenlty keep my Slap on because it’s so stylish. Honestly, you can wear your Slap as a hat during the day because it camouflage so well no one will know you also wear it bed.  I highly recommend you get a Slap, save 10% now on your first order.

Gotta take care of my body yall

Once my hair is bed time ready, I wash my face, moisturize my skin brush my teeth and then I do the one thing that has literally changed my life. I put out my workout clothes – sports bra, shirt, compression pants, socks and sneakers.  When I lay out my workout clothes I’m making a life changing commitment to workout the following morning.  I’m putting my mind, body, and soul in alignment with my fitness goals the night before and I wake up ready to workout.

When I would wait to get ready for my workout the morning of I would often find reasons to not workout.  I’m sure you can come up with about 5 right now if you wanted.  But I promise if you prep for the gym the night before you wake up motivated for your workout.

Gotta take care of my mind yall

At the end of last year I told you all that my goal is to read 1 book every month. I get most of my reading done in my bed at night.  Research has show that reading is the best way to relax. and even six minutes can be enough to reduce the stress levels by more than two thirds.  So why fuss to find reading time during the day when I can read at night and calm frazzled nerves?  It works better and faster than other relaxation methods, such as listening to music or drinking a hot cup of tea.

The ultimate goal for me when it comes to my night time routine is to take care of myself even when I just want to fall face forward in the bed and call it a night. It’s important for me to give myself this time during the night, every night so I wake up refreshed and ready to go the next day.

Share with me what what you do for you hair/skin, body and mind at night before bed, I’d love to know!

I love that you put your workout clothes to remind yourself your going to do this! Plus it’s such a pain to look for everything! Having it out is a nice reminder that you already made a commitment to yourself!

I love this! The workout clothes thing is so smart! At first, I was thinking that you were going to say that you put on your workout clothes before bed LOL

As for me, I’ve been using some wrap for my hair, but it’s not working out with all my split ends. I was looking into satin pillow sheets but had no idea they had satin-lined caps, that’s so awesome!

And I want to try the reading a book before bed, that seems calming. My routine usually consists of staring at my phone until I’m tired.

What a great routine you have. I to love to read to expand my mind and to learn new things. I also like your trick about the workout clothes I need to do that.

I am so here for self care, it’s starts within first. And I also get it about the hair, protection is a must. I have a lot of cute bonnet styles just so it doesn’t look so messy.

Seriously, I need a better bed time routine. PLaying on my phone doesn’t give me time to unwind. A book would be lovely.

I’m in desperate need of a solid bedtime routine. Biggest problem I have is that I always use my phone in bed.

I try my best on some evenings to do a mask for my face. I need to come up with a better routine. Looks like you have a good one

I read before going to bed at night, too, although sometimes it’s only a page or two. I love your routine – especially putting out your workout clothes. I should do that, too. Maybe it would inspire me to actually work out!

Your routine is absolutely fantastic. I don’t have much of one at the moment as my youngest barely sleeps, so I just jump into bed as and when I get the chance. I’m hoping he starts sleeping better soon so I can get back into my old bedtime routine 🙂

I love to go through my Pinterest likes and pins for the day. So I am not consumed with it all day long lol

I spy with my little eye a Joel Osteen book in that pile!
Is it any good? I am looking at picking up one of Tozer’s books. So important to feed your soul too!

I find it so hard to keep up with a consistent mommy night time routine. No matter what though I always tend to my hair & wash my face before bed. I get most of my reading done waiting in the carpoil line @ my kid’s school. You’re always motivating us to be better. Thank you

I use to be so like you. But for some reason this year has been a emotional rollercoaster for me. I pray everyday God gives me the strength to get back to caring for myself .

My biggest down fall at times is saying I’ll work out and then never doing it. Putting out your clothes the night before as a motivator to work out the next day is an awesome ideas. Thanks for the tip Jenelle (shanicephillips@live.com)
