The Hardest Holiday Season Ever + 3 Ways to Take the Pain Out of Holiday Shopping

December 8, 2016

my-daddy
This holiday season is going to be the hardest one I’ve ever lived through because I won’t be celebrating it with my daddy.  My dad was hero, my role model, my cheerleader and friend.  His Father called him home in April of this year and we miss him so much, especially Elle and Joel.

My father wasn’t a very affectionate man but where he lacked in hugs and kisses he surpassed in his generosity.  He showered my siblings and I with gifts and experiences.  During the Christmas season my dad always played holiday music loudly throughout the house on speakers and this is the root of my Christmas music obsession.

Ever see those photos of ridiculous amounts of presents under the Christmas tree?  That was our house.  We honestly always had way more toys than a child should really ever have, but this was my dads style.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m extremely generous. I’m generous with my time and I’m generous with my affection and for the holidays I’m generous with my gift giving — Thanks Dad! But unlike my dad who visited the mall on the weekends just to window shop, I actually don’t really enjoy shopping that much at all. I’m weird, I know.

I shop when I need something.

For someone like me that doesn’t get much pleasure in shopping the malls especially during he holidays, I’ve created a list of 3 Ways to Take the Pain Out of Holiday Shopping.

1. Ask And Ye Shall Receive

My first tip is “ask people what they want” instead of spending hours in the mall trying to find the perfect gift.  If I’m going to spend my money I’d prefer it be something you either really want or you really need.  Yes, it ruins the surprise, but once you’re over 8 years old, who cares?

2. Instant Gratification

My brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and even my mom all want the same thing for Christmas. Can you guess?

MONEY

Not to be confused with a gift card by the way. 🙃

This is the perfect scenario for me because I don’t have to actually go holiday shopping to do this. I grab my mobile phone and open up my Square Cash app which is just like real cash, but better.

I can use it with anyone even if they don’t have Square Cash account and the best part is they can cash out to their bank instantly. This app is available for iPhone and Android.Just learned about @SquareCash for sending money to family this holiday. https://ooh.li/5397328… Click To Tweet

I have no idea who Elle thinks she’s sending all this money to!

There are lots of great ways you use Square Cash, I also use it to pay my interns who work from college because they want their money instantly and prefer not to wait up to 3 days for their money to transfer to their bank.

Here are a few more ways you can use Square Cash:

• Send money to your child in college
• Paying Rent/Utilities
• Planning and buying for a holiday party with friends
• Buying concert/game tickets in bulk to ensure your seats together
• Splitting the bill at meals
• Paying the babysitter
• Sending family/friends separated by distance cash presents

3. Divide and Conquer

Because there are gifts that I really do need to go into the mall for, I break it down over a few weeks. I get Elle and Joel’s gifts during the last week of November,I get the gifts for my nieces, nephews and god children during the first week of December, and anyone else who needs a gift will get what ever is left on the shelves alright? ☺️

Girrrrl you sound like me! LOL……..I’m always ask people what they want, if you say whatever, then you probably won’t get a thing. Sorry…..thanks for the app idea, I’m going to look into that because that is a great way to give money gifts!! May this Christmas and the ones to come be easier and easier and more blessed for you and your family.
